In a bid to decode the extent of the second wave of the ongoing pandemic, UP Government is set to conduct a sero survey in both urban and rural areas of the state. This survey shall commence from 4 June and the final report shall be released by the end of the month. As per reports, this survey is being conducted in Lucknow and other districts of UP and it will account for the asymptomatic patients who did not take the RT-PCR tests.
Sero survey findings to be shared by June-end
The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to conduct a sero survey across the state to understand the scale of the pandemic. The health department officials have been directed by apex authorities to start collecting samples from 4 June and ascertain the volume of immunity that has developed in people living in Lucknow and other UP districts.
Sero survey shall involve the testing of blood serum to determine the presence of antibodies that help in combating coronavirus. Assessment of the updated status of infections, gained through this survey, shall be made on different scales- including gender and age. Further, the findings of this survey shall be released by the end of June.
What is a Sero Survey?
When an external infection or pathogen attacks, the human body fights it with a protective immune response which produces antibodies called Immunoglobulin (IG). While conducting a sero survey, medical professionals will look for Immunoglobulin G (IGG) against COVID and this will help in decoding who has developed immunity against the virus.
How will this Sero Survey be beneficial?
It has been reported that there are several individuals who have had or continue to have the asymptomatic condition and haven’t taken the RT-PCR test. The upcoming sero survey across UP will be a significant step in developing an understanding of the scale of the pandemic by taking account of the asymptomatic patients.
