Commuters of Delhi Metro want everything on a platter. In most cases, this doesn’t turn out the way they expect it to. One major issue that never goes according to plan for commuters is that of last mile connectivity.

Commuters know the pain of getting out of the metro, only to be surrounded by autowalas that charge exorbitant amounts of money to actually take you to your final destination. Now, this will be put to an end as the DMRC plans to run e-rickshaws from stations to various localities around them.

What’s the update?

Finally, this new development by the DMRC will bring some much needed order outside metro stations, especially the more crowded ones. Though there are existing feeder buses that run from metro stations to other nearby places, the addition of the e-rickshaws means that commuters will be able to visit more places once they’re out of the station.

The thing is that the existing feeder buses only run parallel to the metro routes or only go to main areas that surround a metro station. The e-rickshaws however, will take commuters to more interior parts of an area. Owing to this, the appeal for e-rickshaws will increase. To make this dream come true, the DMRC has partnered with several private players.

The e-rickshaws will ply across an area of 4 kilometers around the metro stations which is surely a boon for residents and travellers. The neat feature is that commuters will be able to make bookings for said e-rickshaws with their mobile phones thereby eliminating the need to wait. The booking will also show the fare, which means that you won’t get duped into paying more.

This sort of a development is one that Delhi metro users have been waiting for a long time. This will streamline the metro even more and will make travelling in metro more of a breeze than ever before.
