Delhi, as we know it, is place that has a lot of green cover for a city of its size and amidst all the development, there are some natural biomes that we always love visiting. In the city, you can head over to one of the many parks and green areas where you’ll surely find nature lovers just wiling their time away.

To add to natural places in the city, the EDMC (East Delhi Municipal Corporation) has plans to go ahead with their upkeep of Shahdara lake in East Delhi and convert it into a nature lover’s paradise.

As part of the upkeep and redesign, the goal is to make the area a more family friendly place by cleaning out the lake, making it suitable for boating and a few other water based activities.

In addition to that, the EDMC has plans to construct biking routes and pedestrian walkways as well. For a morning walk in the backdrop of the rising sun, Shahdara Lake would be the perfect destination.

The plan to construct such a park cum lake area was first proposed way back in 2012 but due to administrative technicalities, this project never saw the light of day.

Now, the project has finally resurfaced and the park along the lake will be built across an area spanning 22-acres. With the lake, the entire biome will stretch across almost 30 acres in area.

As part of the work, the entire natural lake will undergo treatment. The water will be cleaned and made more hygenic so that people visiting the place do not catch diseases. According to officials, this is a vital aspect of the project because the humidity levels just make diseases more prone to spreading around.

Apart from that, there will also be bike stands, landscaping, pavements, an amphitheatre, bio walls and six seating areas. There will also be four bridges to make the place more aesthetically pleasing and so that people can cross the lake on foot.

We’re glad to see that the EDMC is taking these steps in the right direction. In a city like Delhi, where the pollution levels are continually on the rise, the fact that we can have our own corner embedded in nature is a great feat that we must cherish.
