In an attempt to provide relief to the city dwellers troubled by the second COVID wave, Lucknow Municipal Corporation is leaving no stone unturned to undertake swift and proactive measures. Despite the enlarged fear of infection, the workers and frontline staff from LMC have turned into COVID warriors, assuring all possible support to the city's human infrastructure. Taking its legacy of committed efforts further, the civic body has recently announced these 5 plans to tackle the COVID mayhem!

Arrangements for caretakers & attendants of patients at all COVID hospitals

Keeping in view the needs and requirements of attendants accompanying COVID patients, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation will be making arrangements for their food and shelter at all hospitals. It has been stated that all COVID medical centres in the city, including the DRDO hospital, will have such facilities so that the caretakers don't have to undergo unnecessary difficulties.

Tractors & tankers to aid sanitisation in all municipal wards

While the municipal body has been dedicated to extensive disinfectant drives from the beginning of the pandemic, new tractors and tankers will be introduced to amplify the sanitisation program. All 110 wards in the city will be provided with an additional tractor/tanker and these vehicles will be financed from the Councillor's fund. Through regular sanitisation activities, the LMC envisions curtailing the prospects of contamination.

Measures for assuring safe goodbyes to COVID victims

In order to assure dignified departures to COVID victims, the LMC has mandated that hearse vans should be available in each ward to carry the bodies of deceased individuals. Additionally, two body covers, 10 PPE kits and other resources will always be kept available, to provide immediate assistance, when the need arises. Further, a designated officer will be stationed to give receipts at the cremation/burial ground and facilitate an easier process.

Quick vaccination of all municipal officials

As per sources, the municipal authorities have said that vaccination drives for officers in the municipal corporation shall be conducted on an urgent basis. Given the fact that they interact with a lot of citizens, fast-paced inoculation plans for them will usher in two-fold benefits. It will not only safeguard them against the virus but also ensure the safety of people in their surroundings.

Community centre to be turned into COVID unit

According to reports, the civic body has allocated a sum of nearly ₹5 crores for converting a community centre into a COVID care facility with 15 beds. Taking cognisance of the rising COVID cases and the crunch in medical resources, this decision was taken by Mayor Sanyukta Bhatia. Though the hospital will be open to all, it has been said that admission requests from corporators and the municipal officers will be treated with preference.

In order to facilitate improved implementation of projects at the ward level, each ward is being furnished with a fund of ₹62.50 lakhs. While all these programs are definitely important, their efficacy can only be observed if the citizens' cooperation is promised. Therefore, it is important to adhere to all stated guidelines and protocols if a quick escape from the pandemic is desired.
