"He who feeds a hungry animal feeds his own soul", said Charlie Chaplin and his words have become the driving force for some samaritans working for animal welfare in Lucknow. Motivated by their innate will to serve the diverse inhabitants of our combined ecosystem, these altruistic individuals have redefined the meaning of compassion and kindness. So here are the 5 welfare collectives, that are ensuring easier and happier lives for animals through umpteen initiatives!

Jeev Basera ( SPCA LUCKNOW )

Located in New Hyderabad, Jeev Basera has been promoting animal well-being in Lucknow for the last 3 years with its team of about 10 individuals. They live by the motto of helping those who are in need and are not able to ask for help. While a part of Jeev Basera's human force comprises corporate employees who lend a helping hand whenever they get time, it also has a group of full-time dedicated individuals.

Dhyaan Foundation

With their rescue teams and special cow shelters, Dhyaan works to aid a range of animals in the city. Remarkably, this organisation is run entirely by a group of 5 to 6 women. With the help of Nagar Nigam's Dr. Shyam Dubey, Rupali Saha and her team of Era, Aparna, Archana and Poonam assure on spot rescue to cows, dogs and other strays.

Nawabi Tails Rescue

Other than rescuing dogs and other strays, Nawabi Tails Rescue has been involved in a list of focused projects, like the anti-rabies vaccination drives. Led by a qualified surgeon, this organisation has shouldered the responsibility of extending its assistance to as many animals as possible. In a bid to ensure a safe home for the local dogs, they promote the idea of adopting native breeds.

People For Animals Lucknow - PFA Lucknow

People for Animals tries has been doing its bit by providing immediate medical assistance to animals all across Lucknow, for quite some time now. In case of a serious injury, the team brings them back to Budheshwar, Mohan Road for surgery. Naveen, an animal activist along with his team of 20 people has been helping strays for over 3 years through this venture.

KPC Hospital

KPC Hospital situated in Gomti Nagar Extension has about 8-10 members who work on injured strays and treat them at no cost. Dr. Najendra Gupta, Archana, Shubham and their peers treat the strays and foster them till they become completely well. The group has helped save lives of many strays in the past few years.

Indore Municipal Corporation to upgrade its existing dry waste segregation system soon

With a secondary segregation unit to supplement the existing facility, Indore civic body will soon segregate dry waste into 35 different categories

Taking its cleanliness drive up by a notch, the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) is now planning to upgrade its existing waste segregation into 35 different categories. As of now, with the help of the automated Material Recovery Facility (MRF) set up at Devguradia trenching ground, the dry waste is segregated into 12 different categories. Reportedly, this facility was established at a cost of about ₹20 crores.

The state of Maharashtra on Thursday announced its decision of reopening schools for all students from class 1 onwards, starting December 1. From Wednesday, schools will be conducting regular, physical sessions for standards 1 to 7 for the first time in 19 months. With this, all school students in the state, except those in pre-primary and kindergarten grades will be permitted to attend school, under the authority of listed COVID guidelines and SOPs.

Noteworthily, the final decision regarding the reopening of schools in Mumbai will be taken by the BMC Commissioner. This decision will affect about 11 lakh students (from classes 1 to 7 ) in the city.

Augmenting the ongoing vaccination drive in the city, the District Magistrate of Lucknow has now scraped the mandatory registration required before taking the vaccine against COVID. With the implementation of the walk-in vaccination system, the residents of Lucknow can now directly head to the vaccination centres and take the first or second jab without having to make a prior booking. The decision to do away with this prerequisite registration was taken by the DM in a meeting on Friday.

Passengers from South Africa to be put under quarantine at Mumbai Airport due to Omicron scare

If the arriving passengers test COVID positive, their samples will be sent for genome sequencing

Amid the rising concerns of the new COVID variant Omicron, the Union Health Ministry has directed to increase testing and screening of all international travellers. In continuation to this, a special set of airport guidelines have been put in place for those arriving from South Africa, the epicentre of the said mutation. Reportedly, such passengers will have to undergo testing and quarantine at the Mumbai International Airport. If found COVID positive, their samples will be sent for genome sequencing, the Mumbai Mayor informed.
