In recognition of the commendable performance put up by the Indian players at the Tokyo Paralympic Games this year, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to felicitate the medal winners of the tournament. As per a government representative, the Chief Minister has asked the officials to chalk out plans for organising a mega event for this purpose. Held from August 23 to September 5, Tokyo Paralympics 2020 witnessed the largest-ever contingent from India and the highest medal tally too!

UP govt to honour medal winners from the state & other parts of India

After felicitating the Olympic players last month, the Uttar Pradesh administration is now ready to honour Indian Paralympic medal winners, who have made the country proud. With a record total of 19 medals, including 5 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze, India ended up securing 24th rank in this Paralympic Games.

A spokesperson of the state government said, “In the Tokyo Paralympics, excellent performance of the sportspersons has made the country proud. Along with medal winners from UP, all those who won a medal for the country will be honoured at a public function.”

Specially-abled players of the state to be a part of this event

In order to uplift the spirit of specially-abled players of the state, the Chief Minister has directed officials to invite all of them to the event. He said, “In this programme, all ‘Divyang’ players from 75 districts of the state should also be invited. It will be a morale booster for them. A detailed plan should be prepared for this event”.

Olympic medallists honoured at an event in Lucknow

Notably, the Uttar Pradesh government had organised a mega event in Lucknow to felicitate the medallists of Olympic 2020 on August 19. Athlete Neeraj Chopra, who secured a gold medal for the country was awarded a cash price of ₹2 crores at this program, while those who won the silver medal were given ₹1.5 crores each.

A sum total of ₹1 crore each, was granted to the members of the men’s hockey team, that managed to secure the bronze medal. Further, the efforts of the women’s hockey team, which missed a medal this time by a small margin, were also appreciated and ₹50 lakhs were awarded to each member of the team.

Knock Knock

With an unprecedented tally of medals at the Tokyo Paralympics, the players have brought striking laurels for the nation. In addition to this, they have become symbols of inspiration for others, encouraging them to move towards their goals regardless of the hurdles that impede the way!
