Now, Balrampur Hospital in Lucknow will be offering complete knee transplant surgeries for those who need the same. Currently, the cost of the surgery is ₹1,00,000. However, if the patient has an Ayushman card, the transplant will be free of cost. So far, as many as 10 patients have received successful knee transplants here.
Until now, the surgical procedure was being carried out only at KGMU, Lohia Institute or SGPGI Apex Trauma in the city, where the patients had to endure long waiting periods.
Know about the fees and implant details
While some private hospitals do have the facility, the cost of the knee transplant surgery here crosses ₹2 lakhs. While in government hospitals, it usually ranges around ₹1.25 lakhs.
The CMS of Balrampur Hospital, Dr GP Gupta, also explained the breakdown of the fees. While the knee implant costs ₹76,000, some ₹10,000 are spent on disposable items, and the remaining on other tools. Dr AP Singh also explained that the MRI-friendly implant used at Balrampur hospital is made of cobalt, nickel and titanium alloy. After getting the implant done, patients could get an MRI test done, if needed. The implant also lasts some 20 years after the transplant.
Established in 1869, Balrampur Hospital is one of the oldest and most reputed government hospitals in the state.
