The COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing lockdown has destabilised the education system in the country. Now, that the virus has eased its grip over the population, educational institutes are gradually opening up. Taking a cue, Lucknow University has not only started conducting offline classes but is also preparing for the upcoming academic session. As per reports, the varsity has further decided to allow multiple options of entry and exit for its students of the post-graduate courses, from the academic session 2021-22. With the latest provision, the university attempts to implement the provisions laid out in the National Education Policy 2020.
University to integrate internships with all courses

According to the new system, a post-graduate student would have two options to leave the course. Either he/she can choose to walk out of the course at the end of the first with a diploma certificate or he/she can complete the two-year program getting his/her degree certificate. Those who leave the course after one year would be provided with the facility to complete the course later, when they intend to do so. Also, the university has said it would work on measures to integrate internships with all courses.
Reportedly, the Dean of the Students Welfare Department informed that the tweaks in the curriculum would work to the benefit of the students who wish to start working after one year of the course. The diploma certificate would enable them to take up a job without losing the credibility of the courses that they have completed. As of now, the university’s PG courses consist of 4 semesters having six courses each.
Mandatory to take up a sixth elective paper

The university has also made it imperative for all its students to take up inter and intra-departmental courses. While each semester would contain 5 courses of the core subject, a sixth elective paper would be the add-on course. In the first three semesters, the students can take up elective courses offered by their own department. But during the last semester, it has to be a course from a different stream altogether.
The New Education Policy 2020 was introduced with aspirations to completely revamp the education set up of the country. With the gradual implementation of all its provisions, the university education expects a renovation soon.
