As part of latest updates in the urban infrastructural front, the state chief minister has given a go ahead to Lucknow’s second metro corridor. The East-West Corridor, running from Charbagh to Vasant Kunj via Chowk, is slated to be completed in the next five years. And is budgeted at ₹5,880 crore.
Comprising 12 stations, the route length of this Blue Line Corridor will be 11.1 kms, including 4.286 kms of elevated length and seven underground stations covering 6.879 kms. The stations will include Charbagh, Gautam Buddha Marg, Aminabad, Pandeyganj, City Railway Station, Medical Chauraha, Nawazganj, Thakurganj, Balaganj, Sarfaraz Ganj, Musabagh and Vasant Kunj.

In another major push, the current North-South corridor, too, will be expanded till IIM on one end and SGPGI on the other. This will enable not only students but those living in far off places, at the same time, combating the chaotic traffic in the peak hours. As for now, the 22-km Lucknow Metro Red Line is operational from Amausi Airport to Munshi Pulia.
While the modern side of the city does need metro conveyance, especially in parts like Gomti Nagar, this new corridor will abundantly alleviate the traffic congestion that constantly hovers over Old Lucknow side. Moreover, it will be helpful for tourists and foodies alike, who frequent the Chowk areas for popular Lakhnavi delicacies. Constant developments in the Lucknow Metro will also help city-ites get used to the commuting means and increase its users.
