It is being estimated that all of Lucknow's eligible population, will at least be partially inoculated before Diwali.
In a notable achievement, the COVID vaccination drive in Lucknow has been very successful in ensuring partial immunisation to around 73% of the registered citizens. As per records, approximately 7.2 lakh individuals are fully inoculated against the deadly virus while the CoWin portal indicates that around 26.9 lakh jabs have been administered in the city, so far.
According to a survey conducted by Knocksense, it is being estimated that all of Lucknow's eligible population, i.e., people above 18, will at least be partially inoculated before Diwali. In August 2021, the city's vaccination drive reached new heights, with the inoculation of about 7.5 lakh individuals, out of which 64% were first-timers.
More than 19 lakh individuals have been partially immunised
According to the official logs, at least 19,77,500 individuals have been administered the first dose in the city and around 7,21,051 citizens have received a second shot of the immunity booster vaccines. Additionally, the statistics indicate that only 50% of the total population (53.2 lakhs) of Lucknow, is partially or doubly inoculated till now.
According to sources, the Civil Hospital Lucknow, has administered vaccines to over 1 lakh individuals so far, which is the highest number of doses provided by any centre in the city. The officials who carried out the vaccination program, were honoured by the hospital administration on August 31.
Individuals preferred Covishield over Covaxin & Sputnik
Approximately, over 4.3 lakh individuals above the age of 60, 7.4 lakh people in the age bracket of 45-60 years and 15.2 lakh beneficiaries in the group of 18-45 years (comprising of 15.1 lakh males and 11.8 lakh females, overall) have been vaccinated.
A survey conducted on a group of eligible beneficiaries concludes that:
- 38% of individuals prefer Covaxin since they believe that it has a better efficacy when it comes to the Delta variants and has a lesser gap in doses.
- 54% of individuals are in the favour of Covishield, since it is easier to travel internationally after the complete dosage of this vaccine and it is also manufactured by the renowned 55-year-old Serum Institute of India
- 7% of candidates have experimented with Sputnik, although there is a scarcity of vaccination centres providing this shot and it is also to be noted that this vaccine has not been tested on Indians as such
The statistics on CoWin indicate that about 22.6 lakh individuals of Lucknow have preferred Covishield, 4.15 lakh have opted for Covaxin and only 13.4k citizens of have explored Sputnik.
A total of 91 vaccination sites in Lucknow
Notably Uttar Pradesh is the first state, where around 7.72 crore people have been jabbed, with Maharashtra, Gujarat and West Bengal following suit, reportedly. Lucknow has 91 vaccination sites registered on CoWin, out of which 61 are government centers and 30 are private organizations.
Bringing an overdue respite for the city, the infection graph is dipping consistently and the recovery rate is improving on the other hand. As of now, Uttar Pradesh has about 256 active cases with 17 of them are from Lucknow.
