Adding another feather to its host of accolades, the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow, has received the NABH accreditation. This recognition certifies SGPGI’s supreme standard of healthcare and contribution in the field of medical science. As detailed in a press release of the institute, PGI is the only institute across UP to have been recognised by the NABH, as of now.
PGI reviews about 350 projects, clinical trials annually
The National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers, runs as the authority to set up and operate hospital accreditation programmes. Further, the NABH also sets standards of excellent service for the healthcare sector. In a recent development, the body recognised the benchmark operations of the SGPGI, which completed the NABH survey to get its due credit.
This survey was carried out by the Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) of SGPGIMS, added reports. The institute’s IEC works according to the government guidelines and its drug and clinical trial rules and thus, the body fulfilled the requirements of the review. As informed by the member secretary of the IEC, the SGMPGIMS has one of the oldest IECs, established in 1988.
Working on a dynamic front, the PGI reviews around 350 projects including clinical trials, annually. More importantly, the institute has a cultured tradition of adhering to the norms and promoting the best interests and safety of participants, while working on new methods or techniques.
Earlier as well, the IEC of SGPGIMS had received international credit, for its prime standard of medical approach and service. The institute has been thrice conferred with the prestigious honour from the International Forum for Ethical Review Committees in Asia and the Western Pacific Region (FERCAP), back in 2011, 2015 and 2018.
