The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has taken a major step towards the construction of Phase 1B, the East-West Corridor of the Lucknow Metro. In the latest update, UPMRC has released the corridor’s route map, detailing its elevated and underground stretches.
East-West Corridor to Feature 7 Underground and 5 Elevated Stations
According to the map, seven stations, Charbagh (B), Gautam Buddha Marg, Aminabad, Pandeyganj, City Station, Medical Chauraha and Chowk, will be underground. Meanwhile, Thakurganj, Balaganj, Sarfarajganj, Musabagh and Vasant Kunj will form the elevated section of the corridor. Additionally, UPMRC has floated the tender for the construction of the corridor, with bids scheduled to be opened on July 28. Additionally, a nearly 350-metre-long ramp will be constructed beyond Chowk Metro Station to seamlessly connect the underground section with the elevated corridor.
Once operational, the East-West Corridor will provide faster and more efficient metro connectivity between Charbagh and Vasant Kunj. It is expected to improve access to densely populated areas of Old Lucknow, including the Medical College, while helping ease road congestion and promoting sustainable urban mobility across the city.
