The Central Railways has decided to demolish Mumbai’s iconic Sion Bridge, which will be closed for the same on July 31. In view of this, new traffic diversions have been issued for a period of two years, starting from August 1, 2024 to July 31, 2026. Notably, the Sion Railway Overbridge has been deteriorating over time and it has already been closed for heavy vehicles.
Traffic diversions, per the advisory
To manage the possible congestion due to the demolition of the Sion Bridge, here are the issued traffic diversions:

Incoming traffic from Dr BA Road’s south-bound arm will have to take a right from Sion Circle- Sion Hospital Junction and pass through Sulochana Shetty Road and Kumbharwada Junction to continue their journey.

Conversely, those coming from Dr BA Road’s northbound arm will have to turn left from the Sion Hospital Junction and reach their destination via Sulochana Shetty Road and Kumbharwada Junction.

Incoming traffic from Western Express Highway via Sion Bandra Link Road shall take a right from the Dharavi T Junction, before turning left on Khemkar Chowk to proceed through 60 Feet Road, to take Kumbharwada Bridge to reach their destination.

Light vehicles coming in from the east-bound arm of Sion Bridge will have to turn right from Pahelwan Naresh Mane Chowk and proceed via the Sant Rohidas Road-Ashok Mill Naka-90 Feet Road-Kumbharwada Junction-Sulochana Shetty Road-Kumbharwada Bridge route.

Heavy vehicles coming from the east-bound arm of the Sion Railway Overbridge will have to turn right, just before the Pahelwan Naresh Mane Chowk, to reach their destination via Dharavi Depot Road, Sion Bandra Link Road, T Junction, Mahim Sion Link Road, Khemkar Chowk, 60 Feet Road, Sulochana Shetty Road, and Dharavi Railway Bridge.
Areas designated as ‘No Parking Zones’
To ensure a smooth flow of traffic through the diverted roads, these roads will now become No Parking zones in Mumbai:
