On Saturday, five COVID vaccination centres in Mumbai kickstarted the third and the largest phase of the nationwide inoculation programme. Facilitating the COVID jabs to all adults, this segment is targeted at people aged between 18 to 44 years. This will be orchestrated at BYL Nair in Mumbai Central, RN Cooper in Juhu, BKC jumbo centre in Bandra, Rajawadi in Ghatkopar and SevenHills in Andheri today, amid the 3-day suspension of all vaccination activities ordained in the city.
Strict registration for vaccination
Due to the numbered supply of vaccine doses, the beneficiaries have been permitted by a strict online registration and walk-ins will not be permitted, stated the Additional Municipal Commissioner of the BMC. Time slots have been allotted to people on the Co-WIN portal only.
While other vaccination activities have been stopped here, the BMC official stated that the drive on Saturday will focus only on phase 3 beneficiaries. He further added that vaccination for people who are 45 years and above, will commence once the additional doses are received.
Case positivity rate lowers in Mumbai
Mumbai seems to be recovering from the hardest blow of the coronavirus infection with strict restraints and protocols. As per the Health Department, fresh cases in Mumbai have been curtailed at 3,888, dropping below the 4,000-mark. Mumbai presently harbours about 65,670 active cases and about 85% of these are asymptomatic, read reports.
Officials have credited the ‘ATM strategy’, which is ‘Assess, Triage and Transfer, and Management’, for the present respite. On the other hand, the prevalent strict restrictions and protocols have assisted to lower the case positivity ratio, paving the way for healing trends here. The case positivity rate refers to the number of positive per 100 cases. Reportedly, this ratio has been pulled down to about 9.94% from the alarming 17.26%, earlier this week.
Mumbai records healing trends
A dip in the case positivity ratio suggests that the number of people exhibiting COVID symptoms and seeking tests has reduced considerably. Over 90% of the people who sampled for the test have received negative reports which hint at the reducing ferocity of the infection.
Meanwhile, around 5,345 recoveries were noted in Mumbai on Friday, boosting total recovery to 5,68,083 since the pandemic outbreak last year. While a toll surge at 89 death raised alarms, it was also noted that a major lot of these were over the age of 60 years or had comorbidities.
