The new expressway promises a faster and more direct way to get from Delhi to Mumbai!
In just a matter of three years, Mumbaikars will be able to take a 12-hour drive to get all the way down to Delhi, and vice versa. The 8 lane highway that is the NHAI's (National Highways Authority of India) pet project has just been put on the fast track to completion by January 28, 2023. Authorities have stated that there will be no flexibility in this date.
At any rate, this is a project that we're eagerly looking forward to, for a number of reasons. For one, it will bring about a change in business and commute practices in both Delhi and Mumbai, owing to the 12-hour drive.
What's the update?
January 28, 2023 has been declared as the date of completion for the new proposed Delhi to Mumbai expressway project. The NHAI has undertaken a herculean task, but once they pull through, it is sure to be extremely beneficial for residents and business owners in the two biggest cities. The e-way will cut on-road travel time between the two cities by half (12 hours), which will open the doors to endless opportunities and ease of commute between the two cities.
As per NHAI authorities, the requirement of such a highway was quite prevalent. They have stated that the completion of this highway will herald a new age of logistics and transportation between the two economic hubs.
The 8-lane expressway stretches across a total length of about 1,290 kilometers from city to city. Along the route, the highway covers 9 cities and several smaller villages, including areas such as Kota, Mukundra, Ratlam, Vadodara and Surat, just to name a few.
The authorities have also stated that as of now, the highway will be 8 lanes, but, for the future, there are plans to expand it to 12 lanes. Additionally, for the convenience of commuters, there will be a total of 73 wayside amenities at 50 kilometers each.
Connectivity between Mumbai and Delhi is really not an issue, but with the phenomenal rate of growth of both the cities, more options were surely needed. This mega highway is certainly a step in the right direction and will serve as a benchmark for other such ambitious projects in the future. By 2023, Mumbaikar's can expect to zoom past the countryside and get to Delhi.
