Fuelling the project for the transformation of the Andheri Railway Station, the officials have successfully received the sanction from the Western Railway. As per reports, it is expected that the request for qualification will be publicised soon and the station is all set for a revamp at an approximate charge of ₹218 crores. With the new developments at the railway station premises, commuters will be benefiting from enhanced road accessibility and linkage from the metro station.
Andheri Railway Station to be developed via a 2-phase plan
As per reports, the station will be ameliorated by the efforts of the Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation (IRSDC) under a two-phase plan. While more than 4 acres of land will be redeveloped during the first phase, over 2 acres of the facility will be bettered in the second phase. Additionally, commercial developments are also proposed for the railway station, wherein the facilities will be developed on a concourse, linking the railway station and the metro station.
Equipped with essential amenities for the specially-abled and advanced resources like CCTV cameras, the centre will be upgraded adhering to the norms of green development. Reportedly, the main gate at the Versova Marg Road will be catering to citizens with pick-up and drop-off facilities and it shall be connected to the skywalks on the Nityanand Marg side. With an objective to increase the revenues, shopping complexes and hotels will also be established on the premises.
One of the busiest stations on the western track
As per reports, IRSDC had previously proposed to develop the Lokmanya Tilak station. As a part of it, separate arrival and departure facilities will be set up while new railway platforms were to be added. Now, the Andheri Station is about to be benefitted through the program. Dealing with over 4 lakh passengers every day with 9 platforms, the station is one of the busiest on the western track. Now, it expects an amplification in its services soon.
