According to the guidelines, COVID test reports will now be uploaded within 24 hours on the ICMR website
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has established stricter norms of COVID testing in Mumbai. These new comprehensive guidelines will ensure the authenticity and efficiency of test reports amid the high surge in cases. Reportedly, the civic body has stated that symptomatic people will now be tested on priority here.
Priority COVID testing in Mumbai
The BMC has issued specified norms of coronavirus testing to gain full control of the pandemic situation in the Mumbai Metropolis region. According to these new pointers, the municipal authority is ensuring that there are no delays in the testing and reporting of COVID cases. This will effectively reduce the number of critical COVID cases in the city, which eventually, can be treated at the earlier stages.
The civic system has noted that asymptomatic patients and corporate office staff are still being tested in the city, which is pipelining the reports of the symptomatic patients and those individuals who need urgent hospitalisation. While a doctor's prescription is no longer required for testing of any individual, the new guidelines direct all labs to give preference to symptomatic patients for sample collection, testing or generating reports.
Additionally, pregnant women who are due to deliver in the next 5 to 10 days will also be tested on priority. This category also includes high-risk patients who need urgent medical attention or even hospitalisation. Besides this, laboratories and testing centres are expected to update the test results within 24 hours of sampling, on the ICMR forum.
