The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has decided to induct technology and innovation to tackle a whole host of civic issues in Mumbai. The mission will progress under the municipality's Business Incubation Centre with the help of city-based startups and their expertise in different subjects.
The key focus areas will include stormwater drain management, waste management, cleanliness in slum areas, education and public health. Startups and innovators can submit their entries with the proposed solutions till September 5, to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Culturing ideas for Mumbai's development
The BMC's Business Incubation Centre has been set up with the help of IIT Bombay's Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE) and has decided to plug in startup help for civic solutions. The BMC has been providing infrastructure support and facilities in Mumbai for years and now and now aims to harness novelty, innovation, technology and new blood to improve the existing force.
Each startup proposal and idea will be analysed by the governing board members of the Society for Mumbai Innovation Lab to Entrepreneurship (SMILE). A special purpose vehicle (SPV) has also been set up by the BMC to build a platform for young entrepreneurs to materialise their ideas as viable business prospects which simultaneously maximising social welfare. the committee consists of municipal officials, corporators, IIT experts, entrepreneurs, professionals, and practitioners in related fields.
The programme is a stepping stone towards redefining and retaining Mumbai's status as the Internation Business Hub, read reports. The vision of this social entrepreneurship incubation of BMC is to culture socio-economic development in Mumbai, nurture opportunities for growing ventures and promoting ideas that could yield profitable business ventures. It will further bolster the scope of employment in the Maximum City and hike up revenue generation, as well.
