Imagine the morning to be accompanied by chirping birds, cool breeze, green surroundings and yoga-asanas that help you be lax. Sounds like a plan… Right? In a bid to healthify Mumbai using the ancient (and super-effective) methods, BMC has flexed up to start free-for-all Shiv Yoga Kendras across the city from 1 June.
Free yoga for all
According to reports, the Shiv Yoga Kendras will be managed and monitored by the respective local guard offices. The idea was birthed with the aim of spreading awareness regarding physical and mental health among the old and young population. A budget provision of ₹25 crore for capital expenditure and ₹5 crore for revenue expenditure was proposed in the budget.

Notably, the one-of-a-kind yoga classes can be conducted at all BMC properties, including, schools, marriage halls, ward offices, and any other open public space. However, the civic body’s only condition is that the ward needs an enrolment of at least 30 people to conduct the classes. Notably, the classes will be conducted during morning hours for which the group would only need to bring their mats or required equipment. With the world slowly realising the power of Yoga, it’s time for India too to make good use of its own profound legacy.
