This refreshing coffeehouse and eatery catches attention instantly, with flamboyant graffiti on its exteriors – ideal for aesthetic photo ops. Designed intricately by Studio 6158, Mokai’s interior captures the essence of Japanese culture in a visually appealing fashion. Nailing a blend of simplicity with curved walls, neutral tones and maximalist Harajuku aesthetics, the space casts a sense of warmth, ease and comfort. Similar philosophy radiates in Mokai’s menu too. Far from the usual fare, here you’ll come across tasty offerings such as Congee – a savoury rice pudding with miso butter, straight outta a Japanese coffee shop.
In conversation with Knocksense, owner Karreena Bulchandani said “Mokai is an Asian cafe that specialises in coffee. We house both local and international blends like Singapore’s Common Man Roasters.”
With Mokai, Karreena is bringing home authentic inspirations from her personal adventures in China, Thailand, Vietnam, and beyond. As it stands, Mokai promises to bring the best of Asia’s cafe culture to Mumbai.
