Central Railways conducts online survey ahead of restarting local trains in Mumbai

The local train survey aims to seek passenger feedback on the local trains & special AC rakes.

The Central Railways on Thursday rolled out an online survey on Twitter to seek feedback on the local train services in Mumbai. Resultantly, a set of questions have been listed on Twitter - ranging from commute patterns to preferred routes. This will assist the Railway authorities to analyze the public opinion of local trains and special AC rakes, forming the base of all changes which will be relayed.

Online feedback survey for local trains

The Central Railways has put up a Google form link on Twitter, urging the people to express and share their opinion on the local suburban train network in Mumbai. As per reports, the form will be available in two languages - English and Marathi and the survey taker can pick the language as per their convenience.

People will be asked to fill in their personal details, first and then answer questions which will include the frequency of travel and the preferred mode of commute - rail or road. This survey will also inquire about the class in which the passenger travels and their opinion on ticket prices and fares.

Besides, local train travellers will be given the option to select their preferred travel routes. Here they can pick more than one route along the various functional rail lines. These include Churchgate - Virar – Churchgate, Virar - Dahanu Road – Virar, Andheri - Virar – Andheri, Churchgate - Dahanu Road – Churchgate, CSMT- Karjat – CSMT, CSMT - Kasara – CSMT, CSMT - Kalyan – CSMT, CSMT - Thane – CSMT, CSMT - Panvel – CSMT, CSMT - Belapur – CSMT and Thane - Panvel - Thane.

The survey will also branch out to probe the passenger opinion about the AC rakes. These questions will seek to know if commuters are okay if AC locals run on the schedule of normal locals and their sentiments about the fare. Demarcation is another subject about which the Railway is trying to get the travellers' opinion. Survey takers can also give their suggestions to the Railways, in about 50 words, at the end of the question form.

When will the locals return to tracks?

The most pressing question at this hour is about the resumption of local trains for all. Before the COVID-19 era, these services used to ferry over three million passengers daily on both Central and Western lines. However, that has been handicapped given the restrictive protocols of the pandemic. Currently, local trains plying only for essential works and people who are travelling for vaccination or other medical purposes.

The Maharashtra Government has made it very clear the local services will not resume anytime soon despite a falling of cases in Mumbai. The reopening will be based on the lowering of the overall virus positivity rate, the Maharashtra Relief and Rehabilitation Minister on Monday.
