We Delhites are always short on certain things- space, temper, fresh air, wageirah wageirah but the ultimate element is time. We don’t have time and are always falling short of it and we think, what irks us the most is extensive travel time!
Majority of us can’t afford fancy flights or last moment airline tickets like in the movies due to the costs. But in order to travel long distances and other cities, we have our good ol’ throttle machine, the chook chook gaadi!
So along the same tracks, we have news for those who’ve been travelling from Delhi to Mumbai and vice versa but have been caught in the loop of long hours, stuck in the train compartments. We also know the horrors of Delhi’s fog during winters and how it can cloud anyone’s spirit to travel!
The railway department has proposed a plan that is set to slash down the distance from Delhi to Mumbai and Howrah as well, to just 10 and 12 hours respectively. That means that we’ll have to travel “five-and-a-half” hours less than the usual time and this project will be sailing 2023 onwards! This proposal falls under the 100-day plan of the Modi government, where the railways target to increase the maximum speed of trains to 160 kmph on these routes to make travelling quicker.
These two routes are always utterly crowded and there is an immediate need to shore up the track infrastructure. These two tracks account for nearly 30% of passengers and 20% of total freight traffic.
This much-needed change will actually help the people on a budget to travel faster and we’re thanking our lucky stars for it.
