THESE ecopreneurs from Mumbai up-cycle used footwear to help the needy!

From Mumbai to the United States of America, Greensole has literally come a long way!

Greensole, a brainchild of Shriyans Bhandari and Ramesh Dhami started its journey in the year 2013 when the two budding athletes got the idea of converting the intact soles of sports shoes into trendy slippers. The aim behind its conceptualisation was to contribute to society by creating an eco-friendly self-sustaining social venture. From Mumbai to the United States of America, Greensole has literally come a long way, garnering praises and accolades throughout the journey.

Forging ahead to turn their vision into reality!

The main motive behind the inception of Greensole was to bring about change in three spheres of society- social, economic and environmental. With multiple donation drives every year, the organisation has already provided over three lakh pairs of footwear to the underprivileged children and provided employment opportunities for women in rural areas as well.

All of their products are eco-friendly as they are up cycled from discarded footwear and clothes. With approved Vegan certificate from PETA, the new items manufactured at the store come with zero carbon footprint. This social venture also retails their products to support the self-sustaining infrastructure.

Donation drive in Luckow, in partnership with Axis Bank

What once started as an initiative to recycle worn-out sports shoes into new slippers, has ventured into converting non-biodegradable shoes and clothes into trendy footwear, bags and even masks now! In 2019, Greensole entered the market of the United States with the aim to make a social impact globally, while being economically conscious.

Empowering deprived people through skill center

Greensole has collaborated with TATA Steel and Lion's Club Noamundi in 2018 to start a skill centre in Jharkhand. Meant to train and employ underprivileged people, this center supports 6 families at present and trains about 100 people every year. Besides, this social enterprise wishes to open 30 more skill centres in future. This would be a significant step towards training more people with the technique of refurbishing old footwear into new products.

With a long list of achievements & accolades!

From being featured in over 250 publications to marking their presence on the ramp of Lakmé Fashion Week twice, Greensole has done it all! Apart from getting various awards like the Lexus India Design Award in 2017, the owners have also bagged a position in Forbes 30 Under 30, in 2018.

Awards aside, the real achievement of this enterprise is the fact that they have saved 16,60,000 pounds of CO2 emissions with their innovative ways. Up-cycling discarded footwear and clothes that would've otherwise ended up in landfills, this firm is marking a significant contribution towards the sustainable development goals.

Besides, one can also make online donations or draw a cheque in the name of Greensole Foundation to support their work. Check out their official website to know more about them.
