Bharat Earth Movers Limited to deliver metro rake to MMRDA by December.
Establishment work of metro line 2A and 7 stands at 80% completion and in the coming months, all work related to train laying, signalling and civil construction will pave the way for scheduling the first trial-run of these lines from January 14, 2021. These routes of 2A and 7 will connect Dahisar to DN Nagar and Andheri East Respectively.

The contract for Metro Rake of these two routes is with the Indian manufactures, Bharat Earth Movers Limited which has helped the project be one of the marquee tenders of the 'Make in India' initiative. The BEML is also contracted ₹3, 816 crore to provide 504 carriages for 84 trains sets, each of 6 units for the metro lines of 2A, 2B and 7.
Though the trial runs on 2A and 7 lines were earlier this year, opening up the lines to the public by 2020, the ongoing coronavirus pandemic decelerated the manufacturing and construction process, delaying the delivery of cars and establishment of routes. This resulted in an overall slow down the testing procedure which is now dated in 2021.
The MMRDA is to receive 4 of these indigenously designed trains of the Mumbai Metro by January 10 and thus the test runs have been set up from January 14.
