Us Mumbaikars relate places to particular things which have been long associated with it. Bandra Sea link to monsoons,Mumbai night to Marine Drive, Matunga to South Indian food, wageirah wageirah. But our love for Kheema Pav is deeply related to the Parsi-Iranian joints around the city but what happens if you're in SoBo? Which hub would you pick for a breakfast sesh? Choices are unending but time is limited!

In the hotbed of eateries serving some of the city’s best South Indian nosh, that is Matunga, lies an equally popular if unlikely restaurant- an Irani one, Koolar and Co. The café was started as King George’s Café by a British owner which was later bought by senior Koolar and post-independence, the name change took place.

Vintage aesthetics done right!

Koolar & Co. in east Matunga, is an Irani restaurant run by Amir Koolar and his brother Ali (Amir was behind making the adoption of trees legal in India; a battle which he fought in the fond memory of his dead Rottweiler). They stay nearby and can often be found here, chit-chatting with their patrons and visitors.

The place screams vintage like no other- established in 1932, it is one of the last of the old Irani cafés in the city and they haven't even changed the furniture here since the inception! The walls are paneled with wood and mirror and the floor is a checkerboard of old tiles and you'll never really stop looking around. The trinkets, old posters and the ambience will definitely grab your eyes while you sip on their famous Irish Coffee or Irani Chai.

There is a small dessert counter stocked with bakery goods and another counter houses medicines, biscuits, khari to mawa cakes!

Let's talk food!

Known for its authentic Parsi breakfast and all-day snacks, this cafe is known for its spicy Kheema Pav, Wrestler Omelette which packs 5 eggs at a go and the famous Brun Muska, which'll stay with you for a long time.

The Irish Coffee was served in a tall glass with a large shot of whiskey mixed with strong coffee and served with a dollop of cream on top. It woke us up from the insides and it is not for the faint palated!

The Kheema Pav is a plate of rich minced meat, topped with a sunny-side up and served with buttered up buns. Wash it down with a cup of chai and if this isn't an ideal breakfast plan for you, then we don't know what is.
