Level 3 restrictions to be continued in Mumbai as Maha amps up its guard against the pandemic

Reportedly, the city recorded a 3.96% average positivity rate while the O2 bed occupancy hovered over 23.04% in the past 2 weeks.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has announced that Mumbai will continue to reel under the level 3 restraints of the Maharashtra multi-phase unlock plan. Reportedly, the city has recorded a 3.96% average positivity rate while the oxygen bed occupancy has hovered over 23.04% in the past two weeks. The civic body's latest decision has been propelled by the state government's call for amplified restrictions to check the spread of the Delta Plus variant.

Strict measures and extensive vigilance despite falling positivity rate

As per reports, the BMC officials continued with strict measures and widespread vigilance in the city despite the fall in positivity rate and oxygen bed occupancy last year. Notably, the state administration has altered its policy for relaxing the restrictions. Now, 3-level unlock restrictions will be deployed instead of 5-level unlock plan. Additionally, the decisions would be independent of oxygen bed dependency and positivity rate.

District Disaster Management authority to decide over unlock interventions

As per reports, the territorial administration has maintained that the cities would drop down from level 3 if the district disaster management authority intervenes in this regard. This would be in alignment with a state government notification. Additionally, reports state that the order targets vaccination of 70% eligible individuals in the state at the earliest.

Reportedly, DDMA will observe and examine the trends in positivity rate and oxygen bed occupancy over the past 2 weeks, for tweaking the restrictions. Further, only RT-PCR tests will be considered for calculating the positivity rate while Rapid Antigen and other tests will not be taken into account. This string of decisions is fueled by the detection of the Delta Plus variant in some of Maharashtra districts, including Ratnagiri, Jalgaon and Mumbai.

What's allowed in Mumbai?

Essential shops falling under areas of level-3 will be operational on all days while non-essential establishments will function on weekdays. All the aforementioned facilities will be functional till 4 PM in the evening.

In addition to this, takeaway and home delivery facilities are allowed from hotels and restaurants while e-commerce deliveries will also continue as usual. Further, it is noteworthy that only healthcare staff and personnel involved in necessary services are permitted to use the local trains.
