After a brief pause following its early onset on May 26, the southwest monsoon is expected to make a comeback in Mumbai and other parts of the peninsula by June 13, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD). While the monsoon arrived earlier than usual, it has since entered a dormant phase, with only scattered showers recorded.
The lull is expected to end as a weather trough extending from North Tamil Nadu to the South Maharashtra coast intensifies, triggering fresh rain activity across the region.

An Orange Alert has been issued for Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, and the Ghats of Kolhapur, indicating heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, a Yellow Alert has also been declared for Thane, Raigad, and Pune for June 13.
In Mumbai, no official alert has been issued. However, Regional Meteorological Centre forecasts partly cloudy skies with isolated spells of rain or thundershowers over the coming days. The maximum and minimum temperatures in Mumbai are likely to hover around 33°C and 27°C respectively. A slight drop in minimum temperature by two degrees is expected over the next five days, with intermittent showers likely to continue.
Rainfall so far
Since June 1, Santacruz Observatory has recorded 87.5 mm of rain, while Colaba has logged 82.4 mm, reflecting the subdued monsoon activity so far.
