Mumbai records effective COVID recovery
Containment zones refer to areas that have a high number of COVID-19 cases which are sealed to prevent movement and break the chain of infection by arresting it at one spot. Reportedly, the last two slum areas in K-East Ward were removed from the containment index on Friday. Now, Mumbai hosts zero such geographical regions, indicating a strong healing trend.
During the peak of the second wave of coronavirus in April 2021, Mumbai was nursing a huge load of active cases and had around 100 containment zones with 1,188 sealing buildings across the metropolis. While the city still has about 26 sealed buildings and 1,215 floors as micro containment zones, these stats presently stand at their lowest-ever tally, since the outbreak of the pandemic last year. Up until last month, this number was raging as high 60 sealed buildings with over 5,000 active cases.
The BMC Commissioner expressed his joy over the stellar feat of the entire COVID-19 control tasks force and civic officials in Mumbai. However, he also reasoned that the threat of the pandemic has not subsided with the constant rise of the delta plus strain here. All people are urged to adhere to the state-established coronavirus preventive protocols to persist the much-awaited relief.
Boosting tracing & testing across Mumbai
All ward officers across Mumbai have been directed to increase contact tracing despite the overall dip in the infection. The risk of virus spreading is running on high alert as new relaxations are being awarded here. Besides, administrative wards also need to beef up their daily testing potential, a senior official of the BMC reportedly added.
