IRCTC's Mumbai-Ahmedabad Tejas Express to run 5 days a week from Wednesday

The private AC chair car train has been upgraded with 78 extra passenger seats

The Western Railway on Sunday announced that the Mumbai to Ahmedabad Tejas Express will additionally ply on Wednesdays, ramping up premium-grade services for the passengers from four to five days a week. The AC chair-car private train has been furnished with 78 extra seats to cater to the increased festive demand for high-speed trains. As per reports, these upgraded services will hit the tracks from December 22, bringing ease of travel to a high passenger load.

Bookings open only on IRCTC website

The Indian Railways had earlier ramped up the Lucknow-Delhi Tejas trains services to a 6-day schedule instead of 5 and now, a similar order has been issued for the private train on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route. As per the new schedule, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Tejas Express will be available on all days of the week except Tuesdays and Thursdays.

As per the train time-table, Tejas Express departs from Mumbai Central at 3:45 PM and reaches Ahmedabad at 10:05 PM, the same day. The return journey from Ahmedabad begins at 6:40 AM, to terminate at MCT at 1:05 PM, on the same day. During its run, the train makes stoppages at Borivali, Vapi, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara and Nadiad in both directions, covering the distance rapidly.

Tejas Express is a fully reserved train, the officials highlighted. It also comprises AC and AC executive chair car coaches. Passengers can book tickets only via the IRCTC website for these. The high-speed rail, with its high frequency, now aims to the business clout as well as the holiday season rush.

Tejas boasts of 100% punctuality

Tejas Express resumed services in August this year, post the second wave of coronavirus and since then, has received an approving response from travellers. More passengers have shown confidence in the Tejas, given its prime COVID-19 hygiene measures and 100% punctuality. The IRCTC promise of inbuilt insurance in case of delays over 1 hour, also has a major role to play in this.

Emerging as a top choice for frequent travellers, Tejas Express quickly attained full occupancy booking, during the Diwali and post-festive period, officials said. A similar response is expected ahead of the holiday season now.
