Mumbai Metro lists guidelines for travellers; services to re-start tomorrow onwards

Mumbai Metro launches Metro se Chalo Na Mumbai, to encourage people to travel via metro trains.

The Mumbai Metro is all set to resume its services after the precautionary coronavirus lockdown. The rapid public transport system in Mumbai is opening its services to all metrokars, unlike the city's suburban trains which have limited the travel facility to people involved in essential and governmental services.

Mumbai Metro resumes operations

The Mumbai Metro operations will kick-start in a graded gradual manner from Monday, October 19 and the entire MMRC staff has indulged in a deep cleaning spree to ensure maximum safety for the returning passengers. The CEO & President transportation of Mumbai Metro, ensured the safety of the travellers via a media briefing and launched MMRC's new campaign, 'Metro se Chalo Na Mumbai' to encourage people to travel via this means of public transport.

A list of guidelines has also been issued to maximise traveller safety against the coronavirus infection. Besides following the 'No Mask, No Travel Policy' like the Monorail, Mumbai Metro will also conduct thermal screenings at entry points to the stations, restricting the entry of any individual that exhibits virus symptoms. People over the age of 65 years and children below 10 years have been advised to travel only if necessary.

All norms of social distancing must be followed while entering and exiting the trains and the station premises. MMRC has also issued a list of working gates at each station that are to be used by the passengers. The MMRC has requested the travellers to leave the marked seats vacant and practice safe distance from other passengers. For the same purpose, all metrokars have been asked to stagger travel and avoid peak hours. Passengers need to use Smart cards, QR tickets and mobile tickets for contactless travel. Tickets can also be purchased on Paytm. People have been requested to install the Aarogya Setu app for personal safety and carry minimum luggage, avoiding metallic items, to avoid any hassles at checkpoints.

The trains will run on the entire route of the Ghatkopar-Versova line from 8:30 am to 8:30 pm, however, any information on passenger caps and the number of trains have not been made public yet.
