Soon you'll be able to travel from Mumbai to Nagpur in just 4 hours, via a bullet train

A 776-kilometer-long high-speed rail corridor has been proposed between Mumbai & Nagpur, which will significantly reduce the travel time between the two cities

Advancing towards the era of new-age travel, a bullet train project between Mumbai and Nagpur is in the pipeline. Pegged to reduce the travel time to 4 hours, the tabled scheme stretches across a 776-kilometer-long high-speed rail corridor between Mumbai and Nagpur. Currently, it takes about 12 hours to reach from the Financial Capital to Nagpur, when traveling by road.

Bullet Train Project Report to include eco & social impact review

Going by reports, the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) is presently working on the Detailed Project Report for the bullet train project. This review is likely to be handed over to the government, early next year. Reportedly, the DPR will include a series of aerial surveys, LiDAR surveys, the social impact assessment (SIA) as well as the environmental impact assessment (EIA).

The Mumbai-Nagpur Bullet Train project will map through 10 districts across Maharashtra, so a major chunk of the scheme will be invested in land acquisition. The course of action and due procedures will be only drafted once the project is approved and sanctioned by the government, added reports.

Mumbai-Nagpur highway set to become the fastest highway in India

For now, officials are looking at the possibility of establishing the high-speed train corridor parallel to the upcoming Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg. Presently under construction, this 6-lane expressway is expected to be India's fastest e-way. The super East to West Corridor stretched for around 700-km between Mumbai and Nagpur, bringing the two cities at least 8 hours closer.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project status

The NHSRCL and the Japan Railway Track Consultant Company (JRTC) signed an MoU a few days ago to finalise the designs of the HSR Track works for the T3 package, which is part of the country's first bullet train project. Scheduled to run between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, the T3 parcel covers a distance of about 116 kilometres between Vadodara, Sabarmati Depot and Workshop Gujarat, concluded reports.
