Heavy rain obstructs train services in Mumbai; thunderstorms & showers forecasted

Water logging, boulders, slush on tracks impede regular train services in Mumbai & satellite districts.

Mumbai's local train service wore a dampened look on Monday morning amid intermittent bouts of heavy showers overnight. As per reports, severe cases of track washout with waterlogging, mud, slush and boulders obstructed the smooth running of suburban central locals in Titwala, Igatpuri and Ambernath-Lonavala section. Other trains of the central network along the Khardi, Umbermali and Kasara sections were also suspended on Wednesday night, in wake of intense rainfall activity.

Damage on tracks disrupt rail operations

Long-distance services were affected after boulders fell on the tracks in the Titwala-Igatpuri sector on the Nashik section and Ambernath-Lonavala sector on the Pune section besides slush as the downpour continues. This prevented the passage of numerous in-bound and out-bound trains via this route to different locations in the state.

Meanwhile, the central-local run from Mumbai (CMST) was limited to only Titwala and Ambernath stations in the neighbouring Thane district since Wednesday night, informed the CR chief spokesperson. Tracks ahead were washed out with mud, slush and debris, restricting the movement of trains.

Traffic between the Titwala and Igatpuri sections was also suspended following heavy waterlogging on tracks near Umbermali station (near Kasara). The adjoining Kasara Ghat also witnessed a boulder crash, stated rail officials, which further hampered the rail operations. Normal services, with delays, were operational along the Trans-Harbour route, near Belapur/Kharkopar section, read reports.
