The Optimist World Sailing Championship 2021 is ongoing at the Riva Del Garda in Italy and representing India in this competition is Adhvait P. Menon. This 15-year-old is a class 10 student from Mumbai's Navy Children School and his father, Commodore Prashant C. Menon, is a naval officer. Adhvait has been sailing since he was just a 10-year-old and he took to this sporting activity as fish takes to water.
Youngest participant at 2020 YAI National Sailing Championship
Adhvait Menon sails Enterprise and Laser class of sailing boats and has several achievements to his credit. He was the youngest participant at the 2020 YAI National Sailing Championship, apart from participating in several state-level and national-level events, where he bagged awards for his performance.
It has been reported that Menon has trained with the Navy Sailing Team at the Indian Naval Watermanship Training Centre. At this centre, he has been identified among the good runners, which prompted his participation in the Navy Mumbai Half Marathon of 2019. Here, he participated and topped in the under-14 boys' category.
Other participants who are representing India at the sailing event being held in Italy, between 30 June to 10 July, include Eklavya Batham, Vishwanadh Padidala, Priya Jhansi and Vaishnavi Veeravamasham. These children are competing with contestants from all over the world to establish a name for themselves and their country in the field of sailing.
