In a major push for green mobility, the Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL) has partnered with Honda Power Pack Energy India to launch battery swapping stations at 25 metro stations (Lines 2A & 7) and six Monorail stations.
The initiative unveiled ahead of World Environment Day, allows two- and three-wheeler EV users to swap drained batteries for fully charged ones in under two minutes.
More metro stations to join soon
The first fast battery swap station is already operational at Dahisar East Metro Station, with more planned soon at key spots like Andheri West, Goregaon East, and Chembur.
Led by Hon’ble CM Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Dy. CM Shri Eknath Shinde, & Under proactive approach of MMRDA Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee (IAS) and in the supervision of @MMMOCL MD Ms. Rubal Agrawal (IAS) led a major green mobility milestone on 3rd June 2025.

E-swap stations will be installed at the following locations:
Metro Line-7 (Red Line): Gundavali, Mogra, Jogeshwari East, Goregaon East, Aarey, Dindoshi, Kurar, Akurli, Poisar, Devipada, Rashtriya Udyan
Metro Line-2A (Yellow Line): Anand Nagar, Kandarpada, Eksar, Borivali West, Shimpoli, Kandivali West, Dahanukarwadi, Malad West, Lower Malad, Bangur Nagar, Oshiwara, Lower Oshiwara, Andheri West
Monorail Stations: Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk, Mint Colony, Naigaon, Wadala, Fertiliser Township, Chembur
EV battery swap initiative to generate ₹30 lakh revenue
This initiative, part of MMMOCL’s comprehensive Electric Vehicle Policy, is set to generate around ₹30 lakh in non-fare revenue. More importantly, it aims to cut down on urban emissions and ease range anxiety for regular EV users, including delivery riders and fleet operators.
Officials highlight this move as a significant leap in integrating EV infrastructure into public transport. Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee described the initiative as laying the groundwork for “future-ready mobility,” making Mumbai one of the first cities in India to offer battery swapping within its metro and monorail network. More stations will be activated in the coming months.
