Charlotte Lake

If you wish to camp under the sky, next to a tranquil lake, then the quaint town of Matheran has the perfect spot for you to explore- Charlotte Lake. This lake originates from a dam that forms a pristine little waterfall when it overflows during the monsoon rains. Further, this picture-perfect spot also has an archaic temple of Lord Shiva, which is much revered by his devotees.

Louisa Point

Louisa Point is located on a plateau and historical forts- Vishalgarh and Prabalgarh, can be viewed once you reach the top. Apart from indulging in the adventure of valley crossing, you can also enjoy pony rides here, as you make your way to the summit. Completely covered by forests, once en route, you will actually get the feel of travelling in the 18th-century English countryside.

One Tree Hill

True to its name, this hill has one tree surrounded by lush green grass and its trekking trail, also called the Shivaji Ladder route, begins from Ambewadi. As you near the end of the thick forest, you come across a mass of boulders which is known as Shivaji Steps because according to a local legend, Shivaji rode up this route on horseback. If you are an ardent trekker with an enthusiasm for history, then this place is unavoidable!

Mount Barry

As the mountain with the highest altitude here, Mount Barry- with a name seemingly right out of an Austen novel, offers a dramatic view of sunrise and sunset. You can spot cascading waterfalls and also observe the toy train traversing the rugged terrains of the Western Ghats. Although Matheran is extremely popular among the urban population, Mount Barry is one of those points where you can escape the crowd!

Echo Point

Let the child in you be free when you reach the Echo Point at Matheran because there's no point visiting this place if you don't hear your name reverberate! Owing to its location atop a steep cliff, Echo Point is famous for adventure activities like rope climbing and zip-lining. Further, if you are looking to treat your tastebuds after a touristy day, then you can hop around the various food stalls here that serve local delicacies at reasonable prices.

Knock Knock

A hub for adventure lovers and nature enthusiasts, Matheran is home to several other tourist spots such as Porcupine Point, Monkey Point and Panorama Point, among others, which paint a picture of visual delight. So plan a trip with your travel buddies and head out as soon as you get your leaves approved!
