Mumbai to witness 4th day of Covid vaccination on January 22

Here is all you need to know-

After the Chief Minister launched the state-wide inoculation drive on 16th January, Mumbai has administered vaccines to the healthcare workers on three schedules in the last few days. Through the drives conducted on Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday, a total of 5,251 health workers have been immunised so far in Mumbai. The city is now preparing for the fourth day of covid vaccination, which is to be held on Friday.


Senior doctors took vaccine jabs on Wednesday to boost confidence

As per reports, 1,728 healthcare workers were inoculated on Wednesday, which accounts for 52% of the estimated number of 3300 individuals. A large number of senior officials from the medical fraternity took the vaccine jabs to encourage others and dispel doubts around the vaccine. In order to mitigate the high risks of healthcare workers carrying the infection to their homes, they are made the first beneficiaries of the immunization process. In Maharashtra, 18,166 healthcare workers got the vaccine shot on Wednesday which is about 68% of the total expected recipients.

While Mumbai saw a lower turnout rate hovering around 50% on the first two days of vaccination, the response improved after the walk-in facility was provided to the beneficiaries. The Health Ministry has allowed on-spot registration in case a healthcare worker willing to be inoculated walks to the centre with no prior enrollment.

Mumbai witnessed 501 new cases of COVID-19 and nine deaths and as per the information available on BMC's Twitter account. The cumulative count in the country's commercial capital stands at 3,04,126 while 11,268 fatalities have been recorded so far. Maharashtra has been hit the hardest by the pandemic recording 16,356.5 infections per million people, much higher than the national average of 7961.4.

With 5 more cases, Mumbai shoulders 10 of the 28 Omicron suspects in Maharashtra

On Thursday, 861 travellers were subjected to RT-PCR test in Maharashtra to trace Omicron variant of COVID-19.

The tally of Omicron virus suspects in Maharashtra rose up to 28 cases on Thursday, with 10 cases coming from Mumbai. As per reports, a total of 861 passengers were screened for the coronavirus 'Variant of Concern', where a total of 25 foreign travellers tested positive. 3 traced contacts have also been put under the radar.

All suspected samples have been sent for genome sequencing to determine the presence of the new strain, read reports. The results will be revealed by next week.
