This could be a huge turning point for Mumbai's traffic condition
Any Mumbaikar will tell you that traffic is one of the worst parts of living in the city. We're all tired of the slow moving road traffic and it especially irks us at toll barriers. People travelling over long distances generally have to cross one toll barrier, which is where most of their plans go to the dogs.
This is a rather pertinent issue in the Mumbai we know today, and that is exactly why there are FASTag lanes coming up at toll barriers all around Mumbai. Travellers on National or State Highways, especially from Old Mumbai to Pune can now cut down wait times to just a few minutes or less!
Owing to the state of public transport in Mumbai most people tend to travel using their own vehicles. Travelling by personal vehicles has its own issues, one of which happens to be the long queues at toll barriers.
Toll barriers on National and State Highways are quite prevalent in Mumbai and the jams here are the stuff of legends. Now, finally after a long time, Mumbaikars can make use of FASTags that make for smoother and hassle free passage through said toll booths.
The service will be active from December 01, and it was certainly the need of the hour. In Mumbai, travelling from one place to another can always be improved and the introduction of FASTags is a step in the right direction. Residents from Thane and Navi Mumbai will be given ample time to get their own FASTag, which will help save time as well as money.
The RFID FASTags will enable people to make use of the card for payments at tolls, which will be completely automatic. As of now, there are plans to have only two FASTag lanes on toll barriers, however, the number of lanes will be increased shortly after the service is active, based on the number of takers for it.
As of now, the intricate details of the FASTags are not known, but the authorities are planning to make details public in the coming few days. At any rate, the residents of Mumbai were on the lookout for something like this and it seems that the authorities have delivered.
