On Wednesday, the Central Railway announced that it is undertaking phase-2 constructions of this railway corridor, which is pegged to track out the first direct commute-line between Mumbai and Uran.

According to the project layout, the fourth line will also include linking nodes to the new Navi Mumbai International Airport and the Jawaharlal Nehru Trust Port (JNPT). Reportedly, the first phase of the project to connect Belapur and Kharkopar through a 12.5km-long route was started in 2018.

5 stations to be built in the second phase of construction

The second phase of the Belapur-Uran railway line will include 5 stations between the Kharkopar and Uran stops, namely Gavhan, Ranjanpada, Nhava Sheva, Dronagiri. Besides, the construction of a rail over line (ROR) is also being built between Gavhan and Ranjanapada.

The construction work includes the laying of tracks on a rocky terrain of this region, informed the CR General Manager. The authorities plan to complete the project as soon as possible as the zonal railway has already accomplished 75% of the work. The railway line project is estimated to be commissioned in September 2022, the official added.

According to the project timeline, the railway line first received sanction in 1967 and the infrastructure scheme is now budgeted at ₹1,782 crores.
