Mumbai’s first land-based cable-stayed road overbridge at Reay Road will be inaugurated at 7 pm on May 13. This new Reay Road bridge replaces a British-era structure that was demolished in February 2022. The construction was completed by December 2024, within two years. However, it awaited formal inauguration for nearly six months.
During the ceremony, another road overbridge at Titwala will also be inaugurated remotely.

Further, the bridge incorporates design and safety features, including vertical clearance for vehicle movement under the Eastern Freeway, an underpass connection via Barrister Nath Pai Road, and a bridge health monitoring system. To enhance its visual appeal, LED lighting has also been installed.
Part of a city-wide bridge modernisation drive
The Reay Road bridge is part of a broader initiative by Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MRIDC or Maharail) to replace ageing British-era bridges across Mumbai in coordination with BMC and the Railways. The goal is to build modern cable-stayed bridges adjacent to the old ones, without disrupting traffic.
