NMMC has restarted the services of 'New Smart Card' for the ease of ticket booking for passengers.
Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT), an enterprise of NMMC, has restarted its services of 'Open Loop New Smart Card'. The facility was developed by NMMT in March, for the ease of ticket booking for bus passengers. The card service was temporarily halted in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic but it is currently available at Belapur Bus Station, at ₹100. In the near future, it will be made available at other bus depots as well and commuters will be able to add more money to the card, as per their needs.
Multipurpose Smart Card
According to reports, NMMT is the first public service provider to initiate 'Open Loop New Smart Card' facility in India. The pre-paid card is multi-functional, as the passengers can use it for transport and shopping purposes as well. The card will be valid across the country.
Smart Card currently valid only for AC buses
On the aspect of security, NMMT has assured that registered users will get an SMS alert after every transaction. The card is still in the phase of experimentation and can only be used in air-conditioned buses as of now. But it is being said that it will be vaild for other buses soon.
The resumption of the 'New Smart Card' service will help passengers in booking bus tickets without facing the crowd in these unprecedented COVID-19 times. It will also make buses in Navi Mumbai a comfortable mode of transport, with the ease of booking AC buses.
