Knocksense: A local content and recommendations platform

The Ministry of Railways, on Thursday, announced that all passengers in possession of a valid and confirmed long-distance rail ticket can now travel in Mumbai locals. This ease has been granted to the travellers based on a proposal which was drafted regarding the same on December 15 by the Maharashtra government. Now passengers can easily reach their boarding station, anywhere in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, via the suburban train network.


Local Trains in Mumbai open for long-distance travellers

As per the joint press release, issued by the Western and Central Railway, passengers who have a valid and confirmed ticket for any outstation train are allowed to buy a non-return local train ticket. This permission of travel has further been extended to 6 hours prior and after the time of the journey, to facilitate easier commute to the travellers.

As of now, only select categories of people are allowed to travel by the Mumbai Locals, which partially resumed services in July after a 4-month hiatus due to nationwide coronavirus lockdown. Since then, the locals have opened in a graded manner to ferry essential workers, government employees, lawyers and women. Mumbai locals are currently shouldering about 45% of its total passenger-load before lockdown. Besides this, entry into the stations is authorised by valid identity cards of those permitted by the state. The government has also introduced a QR code reader at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and 14 suburban railway stations in Mumbai to strictly administer this protocol.

Mumbai Locals for General Public

Earlier this week, the state had also proposed resumption of local services for the general public by January 2021. According to the Maharashtra Relief and Rehabilitation Minister, the state has tabled a proposition regarding the same which also highlights the safety of the travellers, by the assertion of public safety norms.

Surgery & casualty wards to soon become functional at South Goa District Hospital

Outpatient departments (OPDs) are already operational at the new South Goa District Hospital.

The multi-storied South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) is being upgraded with new facilities to lessen the load off older hospitals and health institutes. As per reports, the new hospital is likely to house the surgery and casualty departments soon in a bid to clear space at the Hospicio Hospital. Earlier also, all outpatient departments (OPDs) were relocated to the spacious new SGDH for the same reason.

Mumbai local trains to operate at 100% capacity from today!

The suburban train services were suspended on March 22, 2020 on account of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

After running restricted operations for over a year, Mumbai's local train services are all set to resume with 100% seating capacity from today. This is being done in order to account for the increased flow of commuters on the trains. Till now, the Central and Western Railways had been operating with 1,702 and 1,304 services respectively, which account for 95.75% of their total capacity. Today onwards, this number will go up to 1,774 in the CR division and 1,367 in WR, thus making complete use of the total capacity on the two lines.

Spread over 15,000 square meters, this circular building has ample space to allow 100 players to practice at a single time.
