Citizens aged 60-plus in Mumbai can walk in from May 17-19 to get their second dose of COVID jab

Vaccination drive for the 18-44 age group, for the first dose, has been suspended in Mumbai.

In a bid to complete the vaccination course of those beneficiaries who have already got the first COVID jab in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has decided to permit walk-ins from May 17 to May 19. During this course, all 195 vaccination centres across the MMR will administer the second dose of Covishield to all age groups and COVAXIN to those over 60 years without mandatory prior online registration. The civic body has informed that no individual can get the first dose of vaccine in these 3 days.

2nd dose vaccination on priority!

The BMC has decided to prioritise the administration of the second dose of the COVID vaccine for the elderly. Many people had filed complaints with the administration and the civic body, as they were not able to book a vaccination slot even after 6-7 weeks of getting the first jab. Reportedly, the State's Guardian Minister also stated, "Looking at the limited supply of vaccines, it is crucial that we complete the prescribed second shot in the coming week for those who have gone past the prescribed gap between two vaccines."

Consequently, the vaccination of phase 3 beneficiaries, i.e, people aged from 18 to 44 years, has also been suspended. This decision comes only a day after the BMC announced that it will continue with Covishield vaccination for this age group. As per the state's Health Minister, all stocks will now be directed for the second dose vaccination for people over 45 years of age. It has to be noted that walk-ins are permitted only from May 17 to May 19. On all other days, people have to book a slot before getting the vaccination.

The BMC has also provided an updated list of vaccination centres that are conducting the inoculation drive for the 45-plus citizens today. Only healthcare workers and frontline workers are permitted to get jabs on a walk-in, the civic body has highlighted. It has also announced that there would be no vaccination at Rajsthan Seva Samiti & Dindoshi Hall CVC today. Further, immunity operations have been started at the CSMT Railway Office.
