Located 166 km away from Mumbai, the iconic Raigad Fort to get a major facelift!

The order for expeditious development at the site was moved on the 424th birth anniversary of Rajmata Jijabai Shahaji Bhosale

Located just 166 km from Mumbai, the iconic Raigad Fort is perched as one of the most imposing hilltops forts in the country. This archaic site is known to be a treasure trove of vibrant past, ethnic culture and of course, splendid architectural magnificence that pulls tourists from every corner of the world!

Through centuries, the Raigad Fort has been dubbed as the strongest protagonist of the Deccan Plateau but the reality of its coarse walls stands quite in contrast to the fables narrated in history books. The once glorified capital of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, today stands as just another historic site, brought down by weather-tear, old age and blatant neglect. However, this is not the end! History is about to be rewritten and here's how.

Refurbishing Raigad Fort to the glory of yore!

On the occasion of the 424th birth anniversary of Rajmata Jijabai Shahaji Bhosali - the mother of warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Maharashtra government has moved the order to run expeditious development of the historic Raigad Fort. The Deputy CM of the state on Wednesday reviewed the ongoing development planning work of Raigad Fort development work and assured that the administration will refurbish the archaic wonder to its yesteryear's glory.

"Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj established 'Swarajya' with inspiration from Rajmata Jijabai and the history they created together is inspiring for all," he noted. As such, the refurbishment work will include the facelift of Rajmata's palace in the Fort, the conservation of her 'samadhi', preservation works, and erection of the Shiv Shrishti at this heritage precinct.

The Deputy CM further added that there will no limitation of financial support for the development projects planned for this region. All proposals will be tabled before the Raigad District Planning Committee to ensure glitch-free functioning of the (Raigad Fort development) authority.

The state has also taken up the task to develop 21 villages in its vicinity and position this region as a major tourist hub. The visitor footfalls, along with government-aided opportunities in the region will, in turn, promote tourist employment among the locals.
