Earlier, the RT-PCR rate here was priced at ₹4,500
Ushering an economic respite for travellers amid the emergent fears of the Omicron virus, the Maharashtra government has slashed the rates of the RT-PCR test at Mumbai Airport. Now arriving travellers subjected to the mandatory test protocol here only have to pay ₹1,974 to get the COVID test done. Earlier, the price of the same test was marked at ₹4,500 which was later cut down to ₹3,900.
Bringing relief to flyers arriving at Mumbai Airport
A press release issued by the state government highlighted the lowered rates of RT-PCR COVID-19 tests at Mumbai Airport. On Tuesday, the CSMIA authorities circulated an official notification about the changed rates and also informed the concerned officials and health workers of the current situation.
The exorbitant price of getting the compulsory COVID-19 test was burning a hole in people's pockets. As such, the news of the halved rates brings huge relief for all flyers, especially those travelling with families or in large groups. Besides, the on-ground team deployed at the airbase has been directed to guide the passengers through the protocols, to ensure a smooth end-to-end travel experience for the passengers despite the vulnerable situation.
Meanwhile, the centre has also made it mandatory for international travellers to pre-book their COVID tests at the Mumbai Airport. Notably, the provision is only for the passengers flying from 'At-Risk' countries. The new system will come into effect from December 20, giving passengers enough time to complete the procedure.
The alert over the Omicron spread has been sounded across Maharashtra. Till date, a total of 32 patients infected with Omicron have been reported in the state. Out of these, 9 have been discharged after a negative RT-PCR test report.
