Guys, get ready to say goodbye to massive traffic jams!
For any Mumbaikar, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) junction is nothing short of a nightmare. The never-ending traffic along with the ever present and rising number of pedestrians causes much chaos in the area and it is surely something that could do with a makeover.
It seems that our cries have been heard because work to make the junction safer for pedestrians and to streamline traffic has begun. Read on to know all about it.
After a long wait, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) have teamed up to make the entire place pedestrian friendly.
As part of the plan, the goal is to reduce accidents and construct a slew of new facilities that will help pedestrians be safer than they currently are. To help with this, foot paths will be extended, benches, planters and pavers will be installed at the side of the street. Most importantly, there will be a new and expanded zebra crossing, which will not hinder traffic and will give pedestrians a wider area to walk across.
What's neat is that all the transformations that will be implemented here can be moved at any given time. This means that if the area for cars needs to be increased, then the traffic lights can be changed, and more thought can be put into the average pedestrian's habits or vice versa.
This is one move that will benefit everyone- from daily commuters, to tourists who visit the city. CSMT is a highly frequented area for several reasons and it is vital that everyone stays safe here.
In the past, the junction here has been the root of many accidents and injuries, but it seems that the BMC is no longer taking chances. The new move should bring about a massive change in the way we travel in Mumbai.
This is one development that was long overdue. It was something that was the need of the hour and now that work has finally begun, we can safely say that you can expect a better traffic experience here. Sure, during the length of the work, things will be disrupted, but once it's complete, we can expect some awesome returns.
