Mumbai is all set to welcome its second cable-stayed bridge, aimed at easing traffic congestion in South Mumbai. The much-awaited Reay Road Bridge is set to open this November with 90% of work on the project now completed.
Notably, this new bridge has been built as a joint project between the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MRIDC).

Built in 1911, the original Reay Road Bridge in Mumbai suffered decay and deterioration over the years. Hence, a decision was taken to demolish it in 2022 and make a new and modern version to meet today’s increased and advanced traffic demands.
Stretching across 220 metres, it will be a four-lane cable-stayed bridge. Furthermore, the bridge will have a footpath for pedestrians, as well. The iconic Bandra-Worli Sea Link has inspired the design of the bridge and will also have selfie points at both ends.
Built near the Reay Road Station, the bridge will pass over the Eastern Express Highway, ensuring that traffic is not disturbed underneath. Once operational, the bridge will enhance connectivity to Churchgate, Colaba, and Byculla.
