Life in Mumbai is hectic. There's no getting around it. It is what it is. Almost everything is a struggle, a test of one's strength and often times, it yields no rewards. If you're looking for a break from it all, then we've found something that should suit you right away. At this heritage walk, you can take a trip into the rarely explored caves of Lonad and discover the ancient eras like never before.
What can you see?
Along the walk through the ancient caves of Lonad, you'll witness some really old sculptures and inscriptions on the walls. For history buffs, this is one activity that can't be missed.
The Lonad caves themselves are very intriguing and they do give you a totally new outlook on how the ancient humans lived. Of the two caves that you'll be visiting, one of them was built a long time back by the Konkan Mauryas while the other one was built during the Shilahara era.
Caves as an art form
Hidden among the cracks and crevices of hills and shrouded by the charm of nature all around, Lonad caves are a proof of the ever prosperous ancient past of India.
Architectural marvels in themselves, they'll have you wondering how exactly they came into being and what was their purpose. Not only that, they are a testament to art- in all its forms.
All your questions about the caves, how they came into being, why they were built will be answered as you stroll through the caves and their surroundings. Peaceful from the inside out, they'll make you see nature in an all new light and will certainly be a much needed break from the hustle-bustle of everyday life.
We feel that this monsoon is the best time to visit these caves. Not only will you be able to witness the jungles and caves in a new light, you'll also escape the muddy waters of the city.
