If you’re a Delhiite, you would know that travelling from any point in the city in your vehicle is actually a chore. With all the traffic, diversions and dug up areas matters are made worse. However, if you’re going from Mayur Vihar to Noida, the Noida Link road (inaugurated on January 25) should be your go to route for avoiding detours.

To bring more convenience, the Link road will soon be expanding in order to get rid of long travel times and a kilometre long detour.

Construction of the Mayur Vihar Flyover

The expansion of the Link road will include construction of two new loop roads. One of the roads will clear the way towards Mayur Vihar, while the other will ease traffic from Mayur Vihar to Akshardham. As of now, commuters often get stuck in traffic jams due to merging vehicles and long queues that can be attributed to traffic lights. Apart from that, it will eliminate the need for commuters to take slip roads and detours, which are often choke points for causing the traffic jams.

As per authorities, the two loop roads will be beneficial for at least 10,000 daily commuters. The proposed routes are expected to open for the public by June 2019. Readers must note that initially, the two routes were expected to be operational along with the flyover that was inaugurated on January 25.

Construction of one of the Loop Roads

Both the upcoming routes will be 300-metres long and will have five lanes. The first loop road will start from Mayur Vihar and rise to the new flyover before joining the route headed to Akshardham. The other one will allow the traffic coming from Noida to descend below the flyover and drive onwards to Mayur Vihar Phase I.

According to several PWD officials, the new routes are 75% complete and their aim is to make it open to commuters by July. They have stated that construction of these two routes also faced several issues, most of which have been resolved now. Currently, work on the loop roads is kicking in full swing.

The flyover and the loops are a part of the Barapullah Phase III project that began in April 2015. The roads were supposed to have started functioning from October last year, but got delayed. The cost of construction of the new routes is estimated to be around ₹40 crores, but authorities have said that the figure could change depending on circumstances.
