13,702 people test COVID positive in Mumbai on Thursday; a 16.55% dip witnessed

As per the daily health bulletin issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, 13,702 fresh COVID cases were reported in Mumbai on Thursday. After registering high cases every day, the maximum city witnessed a 16.55% drop in single-day figures as compared to the day before. Notably, on Wednesday, Mumbai marked a whopping 41% spike in daily cases as 16,420 people tested positive for coronavirus on the same day.

Maharashtra colleges to reopen from October 20 with over 50% capacity

In view of the gradually declining rate of fresh COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra, the govt on Tuesday announced the reopening of all colleges and universities from October 20. As per the order, colleges can hold offline lectures for over 50% of students who are fully vaccinated. Complete 2-dose inoculation is necessary for 100% teaching and non-teaching staff, the norms elaborated.

Colleges can explore the option of hosting a vaccination camp on the premises to achieve the goal. They can discuss such plans with the local administration, added reports.

INS Tarkash delivers 40 MT of oxygen to Mumbai from Qatar, under Mission Samudra Setu II

The Indian Naval Ship INS Tarkash ferried two tankers of liquid medical oxygen from Qatar to Mumbai on Monday. Propelled by the Indian Navy's Mission Samudra II, the consignment delivered about 40 metric tonnes of medical-grade oxygen in Mumbai to meet the increased demand for COVID supplies here. As per reports, around 760 oxygen cylinders and 10 oxygen concentrators also arrived at the city docks from Bahrain on May 24.

COVID spike decelerated in Mumbai; new tallies dropped to 855 on Monday after 5 days of surge

In the last 24 hours, about 855 new coronavirus cases were reported in Mumbai, marking a marginal drop from the continual high rise of the previous week. While the fresh tallies depict a decelerated transmission, the Maharashtra CM urged the people to wear masks to avoid another lockdown in the city. Presently, about 8,294 cases are under active treatment here and the morbidity count stands at 11,479 deaths, since the outbreak last year.
