The ancient pond of Mumbai's Juma Masjid has been cleaned for the first time in 12 years!

A quadrangular structure of brick and stone, Juma Masjid is one of the largest and oldest mosques located in South Mumbai. Originally, a large water reservoir (pond) was situated at this site in the midst of a garden, that belonged to a merchant, Kazi Husain Pallavkar.

In the eighteenth century, he agreed to build a mosque at this site on the condition that the tank had to be preserved intact. During the current lockdown, the footfall at this historic mosque has considerably declined and taking advantage of this, the mosque authorities cleaned the pond for the first time in almost 12 years.
